AILET PG 2021 on the First Sunday of May
Normally, the AILET is held on the first Sunday of May. However, in 2020, the exam was postponed several times and it was finally conducted in the last week of September. As of now, NLU has tentatively scheduled the exam as per itβs traditional slot β on the 2nd of May 2021, from 10.00 AM to 11.30 PM.
As per the initial notification, the admission notice will be issued in the first week of January 2021. The online application forms will also be available from that week.
NTA will conduct AILET PG 2021
Prior to 2020, the AILET exam was conducted directly by NLU Delhi. It was held as a physical βpaper and penβ type exam β with a printed question paper and an OMR answer sheet.
In 2020, NLU considered holding the AILET as a home-based remote proctored exam. However, the plans were changed after seeing the issues faced by other institutions that experimented with this format.
Finally, the exam was given to the NTA β which has considerable experience in conducting much bigger exams like the UGC NET, DUET, and NEET.
The added advantage of NTA conducting the AILET PG was that the number of exam centers was increased significantly and the exam went off without any major issues.
For 2021, NTA will most probably be conducting the AILET exam again. While this is yet to be announced officially by NLU-D; the official notification is also marked to the Chairperson and the Secretary of the National Testing Agency. Unless of course, the intention behind looping in the NTA is to avoid clashed with any other major exams.
What to expect for AILET PG 2021
If NTA is conducting the exam for 2021, the syllabus, question paper pattern and the marking scheme for the exam is likely to be the same as the previous AILET PG. We will explore the syllabus, pattern and preparation strategy for the exam in other articles on LawMint.com.
Also, the subjective part is not likely to come back in 2021. Since the essays require manual evaluation β it adds needless complexity to the exam and increases the possibility of the results getting delayed.
Clash with other CLAT PG, DU LLM and other LLM entrance exams
In some years, the schedule of the AILET PG coincided with or at least came very close to other popular LLM entrance exams such as the CLAT, DU LLM, ILI CAT and GGS-IPU entrance test. This caused logistical challenges for students who had to travel to the exam centers from other towns or villages. Some students were even forced to drop-out from one of the exams.
For 2021, NLU-D is first off the bat in announcing the schedule for the AILET and the notification is marked to the authorities of various institutions including the CLAT-2021 convener, Delhi University, Bar Council of India, so that they can plan their exam schedules accordingly.
Also, with NTA conducting the exam; the large number of exam centers will make it conducive for the aspirants.
