Question Paper Pattern for UGC NET Law 2024

The UGC NET Exam will be conducted a a center based computerized test. The Test will consist of two papers โ€“ I and II. Both the papers will consist of objective type, multiple choice questions.

The entire test will be for 3 hours (180 minutes). There will be no break between papers. All the questions are compulsory.

The medium of Question Paper shall be in English & Hindi only. (To be chosen at the time of submitting the application).

Paper I โ€“ 50 MCQs

The questions in Paper I intends to assess the teaching/ research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.

Paper II โ€“ 100 MCQs

This is based on the subject selected by the candidate and will assess domain knowledge

Evaluation Pattern for Papers I and II

(i) Each question carries 02 (two) marks.
(ii) For each correct response, candidate will get 02 (two) marks.
(iii) There is no negative marking for incorrect response.
(iv) No marks will be given for questions un-answered/un-attempted/marked for Review.
(v) To answer a question, the candidate needs to choose one option as correct option.
(vi) If a question is found to be incorrect/ambiguous during the Key Challenge, only those candidates who have attempted the question and chosen one of the correct answers would be given the credit. Only for dropped question(s), if any, marks will be given to all the candidates.
(vii) In case a Question is dropped due to some technical error, full marks shall be given to the candidates who have attempted it.

Comprehension type questions in UGC NET Law 2024 exam

Over the past few exams, UGC has introduced comprehension type questions also into the NET Law Paper II.

There will be two short passages from any case judgement, article, newspaper editorial, journal or book extract. Each passage will be followed by five questions.

Therefore, we can safely assume that 10% of the questions in Paper II (5 + 5), will be comprehension type Multiple-Choice questions.

Candidates should be cognizant of the fact that not all the questions may be directly based on the passage. Some of the questions may be aligned with the passage in terms of the overall topic, but the answers may require general legal awareness.

How to prepare for the UGC NET Law 2024 exam?

The UGC NET Law 2024 is a predominantly memory-biased examination. As with most MCQ based exams, the best way to prepare for the exam is by practicing with as many mock tests and previous question papers as possible.

While the list of topics as per the syllabus may look vast, a review of the previous papers reveals that a 80:20 rule is applicable here also โ€“ i.e. 80% of the questions will be from 20% of the topics. Therefore, students should focus on the important aspects of the syllabus under each topic or sub-heading.
