Why is CLAT PG 2025 being held in the calendar year 2024 ?
This change, where the next year’s CLAT is conducted in the previous year, started in 2022.
In 2022, the CLAT Consortium decided to hold the annual CLAT examination (PG and UG) in the previous calendar year itself. The reasons behind this change were:
- Allowing more time for the NLUs to complete the admissions process
- Allowing more time to the students to prepare for the next steps in their academic endeavors
- Ensuring that the CLAT PG scores are available in-time for PSU and other recruitment
Therefore, in the calendar year of 2022, there were two CLAT examinations – CLAT 2022 was held in June 2022 and CLAT 2023 was conducted in December 2022.
From then onward, the next year’s CLAT is conducted in the previous year itself – in the month of December. Therefore, CLAT PG 2025 and CLAT UG 2025 will be conducted in December 2024.
What is the CLAT PG 2025 eligibility criteria ?
As per the official notification, the basic eligibility criteria for CLAT PG 2025 is a BCI recognized three or five year LL.B Degree. This has remained the same as the recent previous years.
The minimum marks for eligibility are:
- Fifty percent or equivalent – for General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI category candidates.
- Forty-five percent – for candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
The minimum marks are for the candidate’s LL.B final year – final exam; and NOT aggregate or average marks.
Remember, the ‘Eligibility criteria’ is for admissions into the NLU LLM programs and not specifically for taking up the CLAT PG 2025. Especially because most candidates are yet to appear in their final year exams.
Therefore, candidates should meet the eligibility criteria at the time of the admission formalities in the respective NLUs.
What happens if a candidate gets a good rank in the CLAT PG 2025, but scores below the eligibility marks in the LL.B final exams?
If a candidate has scored less than the cut-off marks in their final year LL.B, they can still take the CLAT PG, but such candidates will not be eligible for admissions into the NLU LLM programs.
However, the CLAT PG marks can be used for any other recruitment processes, for which the candidate is otherwise eligible; and which requires CLAT PG 2025 marks.
The eligibility marks mentioned on the official notification are for admission into NLU LLM programs and not for taking the CLAT PG exam itself.
Can candidates who are appearing in their LL.B final year exams sit for the CLAT LLM 2025 ?
Yes. Candidates appearing in the LL.B final exams in March / April / May 2025 can apply for the CLAT PG 2025.
Candidates may be offered provisional admission by the selected NLUs. Subject to completion of the eligibility criteria and submission of all documents by the cut-off dates.
The admission process cut-off dates will be published in due course and may be at the discretion of the respective NLUs.
In extenuating circumstances (such as results not being declared in time), candidates should see clarification and extensions (if possible) from the respective NLUs where they have been selected.
What will be the pattern of the CLAT PG 2025 ?
The CLAT PG 2025 admission test will have comprehension based questions. The intent is to assess the candidate’s competence in reading texts and demonstrate skills in inferential reasoning.
There will be 120 questions in total, based on either 12, 20 or 24 passages, with 10, 6 or 5 MCQs based on them respectively.
The number of passages has been changing year-on-year; but the number of questions will be 120.
The questions will test the candidate’s general legal awareness. The overall topics of the questions will be based on the standard LL.B law subjects.
We have discussed the CLAT PG question paper pattern and the sources of the passages in various videos on LawMint’s YouTube Channel at : https://youtube.com/lawmint/
What is the upper age limit for the CLAT PG ?
There is no upper age limit for the CLAT PG examination. None of the NLUs have mentioned any upper age limit for their LL.M programs.
Any candidate who fulfills the minimum academic eligibility criteria may appear for the CLAT PG LLM 2025.
But the one aspect in which a higher age is beneficial is in case of multiple students scoring the same marks in the CLAT PG. In such cases, the ranks will be allotted by the following procedure and order as under:
i. Higher age;
ii. Computerized draw of lots.
What is the CLAT PG 2025 syllabus ?
As per the official notification, the CLAT PG question paper will be based on the mandatory subjects of the LL.B course. These subjects include:
- Constitutional Law,
- Jurisprudence,
- Administrative Law,
- Contract law,
- Torts,
- Family Law,
- Criminal Law,

Is CLAT PG 2025 coaching required ?
No. Specific coaching is not required, as it does not add much value towards the preparation for the PG CLAT LLM 2025 exam.
Students should practice with a good mock test series.

They should follow the preparation strategy as mentioned in our various articles, videos and our mock test series.
Where can I download the CLAT PG 2025 syllabus PDF ?
The CLAT consortium provides a brief outline of the syllabus for the CLAT PG examination.
They don’t publish a detailed syllabus as such. It is mentioned that the questions will be relevant to the standard BCI prescribed LL.B subjects; and will be framed around the comprehension passages.
Which is the best CLAT PG 2025 online coaching ?
There are several websites which offer CLAT PG 2025 online coaching. But, coaching doesn’t add much value to the candidate’s preparation, considering the current pattern of the exam.

Who is eligible for CLAT PG 2025 ?
As mentioned previously, any candidate desiring to pursue an LL.M program in any NLU has to take the CLAT PG. (Note that NLU Delhi is not a participant in the CLAT process as they conduct their own entrance exam, the AILET.)
There is no upper age limit for appearing in the CLAT PG or for taking up the NLU LL.M programs.
The minimum academic eligibility is the completion of a BCI recognized 3 or 5 year LL.B degree. Submit the proofs by the cut-off dates specified by the NLUs. The cut-off dates are decided by the respective NLUs.
Foreign Nationals need not appear for the test. However, all NRI Category candidates have to appear for the CLAT 2025 examination for those NLUs where such category is admitted through CLAT 2025 rankings and not admitted directly by the concerned Universities.
Refer to the details published by the respective NLUs for Foreign Nationals and NRI Category admissions.
How many students may appear for the CLAT PG exam ?
Around 11,000 students are expected to register for the CLAT PG 2025 and more than 95% of them will appear for the exam.

Up to 15 ~ 18 percent of the candidates appearing in the CLAT PG are specifically interested in the PSU recruitment. They do not participate in the LL.M admissions process.
Is CLAT LLM 2025 tough ?
No. The CLAT LLM isn’t a particularly tough exam to crack.
Many of our users who took the new pattern exam in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 have secured seats in the top NLUs.
Candidates should diligently follow the suggested preparation strategy and prepare for the comprehension type exam.
This pattern will be quite different – as compared to the traditional LL.B syllabus based MCQ exams.
Practicing with good quality CLAT PG 2025 mock test series based on latest pattern is recommended to crack the CLAT LLM.
How can I crack the CLAT PG LLM 2025 ?
The CLAT PG LLM emphasizes on the comprehension abilities of the candidates. Around 50 percent of the questions will be directly based on the information within the given passages.
Candidates should solve as many comprehension type mock tests and passages as possible to practice attempting this format.
Since the exact sources of the passages and the questions cannot be predicted; candidates should maximize their scores in the direct questions. They should also practice a suitable strategy for solving indirect or external questions – whose answers are not available in the passage.
How many seats are there in CLAT PG 2025 ?
There will be 800+ LL.M seats offered through the CLAT PG, across 19 NLUs. In addition, there will be around 60 affiliated institutions which will use the CLAT PG marks for their own admissions.
