About West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS)

The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) was established under the WBNUJS Act, 1999 (West Bengal Act IXof 1999). It is a university as per sub-section (f) of section 2 and section 12-B of the UGC Act, 1956 and has permanent affiliation from the Bar Council of India. The Chief Justice of India is the Chancellor of the University and Chairman of its highest governing body – the General Council.

NUJS has firmly established itself as one of the premier national law universities in India. It has consistently been ranked amongst the top law schools in India in reviews conducted by the likes of Outlook India, Mint and LexisNexis Halsbury’s Law Monthly. The University was also awarded the prestigious SILF-MILAT INSTITUTIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARD in 2015 for its overall excellence in the field of Legal Studies.

Location and Infrastructure:

Campus Recruitment at NUJS

As per the Institute, the Student Recruitment Committee at NUJS boasts of a near 100% recruitment success rate. Graduating students join leading law firms and companies in India and abroad, clerk with judges at the Supreme Court, and work towards the betterment of society with prestigious NGOs. Several alumni are litigators at the Supreme Court and various High Courts.

Faculty at NUJS Kolkata

Being one of the top Law Schools in India, NUJS has an excellent faculty with a good mix of young and experienced scholars. The faculty includes Rhodes, Fulbright, Commonwealth and Chevening scholars, and alumni from universities including Oxford University, Columbia University, University of Michigan, SOAS, University of Vanderbilt, London School of Economics, NUS, University of Liverpool and Max Planck Institute.

Faculty members have published in numerous prestigious international and national law journals.

 

Fees &Scholarships for the LLM PG program through CLAT PG

Despite being able to achieve the status of an academic institution of exceptional caliber, NUJS has maintained a relatively modest fee structure. It further seeks to ensure that no student is forced to discontinue studies on account of financial constraints. With generous donations from individual donors and institutions, the University has built up a Scholarship Fund, proceeds of which are disbursed to students every year on a “need” basis.

The Government of West Bengal has provided the University with a generous grant for revenue expenditure including supporting the ‘means-cum merit scholarship’ granted by the University. Out of a total grant of Rupees 4.3 Crores, Rupees 40 lakhs has been set aside for supporting scholarship program.).

The alumni of NUJS have also instituted many scholarships. Arrangements are in place for students of NUJS to secure educational loans from any bank of their choice on mutually agreeable terms. NUJS aims to reach out to potential candidates across the length and breadth of India and aboard. It provides quality education to those hailing from the most marginalized and poorest sections of society.

All efforts are made to provide free or subsidized education to such students. NUJS also offers separate scholarships sponsored by various donors. In addition, students can also avail of various scholarship schemes sponsored by the Central Government and the State Government for underprivileged and economically weaker sections.

 

Eligibility for PG LLM program at NUJS through the CLAT ( CLAT PG )

As a member of the CLAT Consortium, NUJS LLM Eligibility norms shall be the same as specified by CLAT.

 

LLM Seats and Allocation – for CLAT PG admissions

  • Foreign Nationals – 02 seats
  • Persons with Disabilities (PWD) – 02 (Horizontal Reservation)

In case of vacant seats in the reserved Foreign Nations category, the seats are treated as unreserved General Category.
