A quick look at the LLM programs offered by various NLUs shows that there are at least thirty six different specializations on offer; apart from the General LLM program. However, in reality there are Fifteen distinct specializations, since similar programs are given a different name by each NLU. The first table below shows the Specialization-wise segregation of Institutions and the second table is a NLU/NLS-wise listing of programs.
Admissions to all these programs is based on the candidate’s rank in the CLAT PG LLM Entrance Examination, the subsequent choice of Institution and the availability of seats in the program of choice.
While some students make their choice of NLUs based on the Institutional Rankings, others prefer to go by the Institutes offering their choice of specialization. While popular specializations like ‘Corporate and Commercial Laws’ (also called Business Laws) and ‘IPR Laws’ are offered by several NLUs; there are also niche specializations like ‘Energy and Telecommunication Laws’ and ‘Natural Resources Law’ which are offered only by specific Institutions.
