Important : The question paper pattern has changed for the year 2020. The new pattern will consist of comprehension based questions. i.e. MCQs based on passages about various legal topics. In the LawMint Mock Tests, we have provided many different practice passages for extensive practice.
The two most significant changes in CLAT PG 2020 are the introduction of the cut off marks for the objective part and the addition of Comprehension based questions into the MCQs.
You can watch the video below for a detailed explanation of these two changes.

Official Notification about CLAT PG 2020 Cut off marks
“Only candidates who secure 40% (35% in case of SC, ST, and PWD) marks in the objective section will qualify for the evaluation of their answers in the descriptive section.”
Possible outcomes of the introduction of Cut Off marks for the objective section
- This is probably the most significant change for CLAT PG 2020
- Candidates scoring less than the cut-off marks will not get a rank
- May Reduce the number of candidates eligible for NLU admissions
- Reduces the number of candidates who can use CLAT PG Scores for other institutions
- Candidates will have to change their approach & strategy for the objective section
- Candidates in the 2nd, 3rd Quartile will have to be careful while guessing answers
- Candidates in the 4th Quartile may not get any ranks
- The ‘Answer Everything’ strategy will be risky
Suggested approach for candidates to work around the cut off marks
- Minimize number of wrong answers
- Avoid complete guesses or blind marking of answers
- Answer if you can eliminate at least two wrong choices

How to practice for the Comprehension based questions for CLAT PG 2020 ?
In the video, we have discussed one of the sample practice passage + questions set that has been added to our CLAT PG 2020 Online Mock Tests & Previous Papers Series.
We have added several practice passages and questions, so that you can practice for the various types of questions that may be asked.
Practice is the key here and you need to improve your speed reading skills to do well here.
You may be able to read a 600 page novel in a few hours, but that does not qualify as ‘speed reading’ since you can skim through or skip over sections that are not interesting and you also need not remember many intricate details or answer any questions.
For answering comprehension based questions, you will have to read the passage in a way that you understand the context, the intent of the author, the overall view of the author, pay attention to any nuances such as sarcasm and identify paragraphs that will help you answer the questions.
