Chanakya National Law University CNLU was established under the Chanakya National Law University Act, 2006 (Bihar Act No. 24 of 2006) and included in Section 2 (f) and eligible under 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956 and is approved by the Bar Council of India.
Chanakya National Law University Patna (CNLU) started offering a PG LLM program from the 2018-19 academic year. The admissions to the newly introduced LLM programme were offered through an entrance examination conducted separately by the institute.
While the UG program (LLB) is part of the CLAT entrance, the admissions for the PG LLM program are completed through a separate entrance exam conducted by CNLU. At some point in the future, the PG LLM program may be added into the CLAT PG participants list.
Eligibility for admission to CNLU PG LLM program
a) A candidate for admission to LL.M. course should have passed an Undergraduate Degree in Law (i.e. 3 Years LL.B./Five Years Integrated LL.B. (Hons.) / any other equivalent degree with the following Marks/Equivalent Grade:
- Fifty Five percent (55%) marks in the aggregate of the maximum marks prescribed in the case of candidates belonging to Unreserved/OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) and other categories
- Fifty percent (50%) marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category
b) The candidate must have passed/appeared in the final semester/final year examination of the qualifying degree on the date of the entrance test. However, the candidate who appeared in the qualifying examination must submit final result on the date and at time of admission.

Question Paper Pattern & Selection Process for CNLU LLM Program
Pattern of Questions Papers for admission to LL.M. Programme The pattern of the question paper for admission to LL.M. Course is as under:
a) Maximum Marks : 150
b) Duration of Examination : 2:30 Hrs.
i. Multiple Choice Questions : 100 of One Mark each (90 Minutes)
ii. Short Answer Questions : 5 of 10 Marks each (60 Minutes)
c) Syllabi : Questions will be asked from the following areas of law:
- Jurisprudence,
- Constitutional Law,
- Contract, Torts,
- Criminal Law,
- International Law,
- Environmental Law,
- Human Rights,
- Corporate Law, and
- Intellectual Property Law
Candidates for LL.M. course will be selected by the Admission Committee consisting of the Vice-Chancellor as Chairman and Faculty members nominated by the Vice Chancellor as members, based on a combined assessment of :
i. The performance at the admission test conducted by CNLU.
ii. Performance at the interview to determine the aptitude for Higher Studies and Research.

Total Seats 30 (Thirty) – (15 Seats General, 15 Seats Reserved (SC/ST/EBC/BC/WBC)
The reservation will be provided as per the Bihar (in admission in educational institutions) Reservation Act, 2003 (Bihar Act No. 16 of 2003) :

- Scheduled Tribe – 1%,
- Extremely Backward Classes (Annexure – I) -18%
- Backward Classes – 12%
- Women of Backward Classes – 3%
