B.N. Mandal University is mentioned in the BCI - Bar Council of India's list of approved universities. All LL.B programs offered in India are overseen by the Bar Council of India.

The BCI approval status may change every few years. Prospective students are advised to check with the university authorities to reconfirm the 2021 and 2022 approval status of the LL.B or LL.M programs.

BCI conducts periodical inspections and grants or extends approvals for the LL.B and LL.M programs.

Admission to B.N. Mandal University's LL.B and LL.M programs in 2021 and 2022

Across India, LL.B and LL.M program admissions are conducted through of the following modes :

About B.N. Mandal University

B. N. Mandal University, Madhepura came into existence on the 10th of January, 1992 under the statutory provision of the Act of Bihar in the rural, socioeconomic backward and badly ruined area surrounded by the river Koshi of the north eastern Bihar, with an aim to impart higher education to the deprived section as the main population of this area. The University was registered under 2(F) of the UGC act 1956 vide office memo dated 26th May, 1993 and granted recognition under section 12(B) of the UGC act 1956 vide office memo no9-3/929 (CPP-I) dated 19th Oct., 2004 as notified by the University Memo No. G.S.1166/04 dated 31/10/2004. This University was carved out from parent L. N. Mithila University, Darbhanga with it headquarter at Madhepura. Madhepura is a district headquarter of Bihar situated in the north eastern part at latitude 250 35’ to 260 07’ N and longitude 860.19’ to 87’ 07’ E.

From the time of its establishment in 1992, the University was spread over the two divisions of Bihar namely Koshi and Purnia divisions having seven districts in its jurisdiction. But now in the year 2018, another University namely Purnia University, Purnia has been carved out of this University, comprising Purnia division and only the Koshi division having its 03 districts, 08 subdivisions, 34 blocks, 504 panchayats and 1454 revenue villages covering an area of 5700 sq. Km. and 6131499 population remained the periphery of this B. N. Mandal University. The geographical area of this university is now bounded in the North by Nepal, in the south by Khagaria and Bhagalpur districts, in the east by Purnia and Araria districts and in the west by Madhubani and Darbhanga districts.

BCI Standard 2021 LL.B and LL.M Syllabus

Legal education in India is under the purview of the Bar Council of India. Till recently, BCI was prescribing the syllabus for LL.B courses and universities were free to design their own syllabus for LL.M programs. However, from 2021 onward, BCI will prescribe the course curriculum and other aspects of LL.M programs across India.

BCI Compulsory LL.B Syllabus - Law Subjects Common for 3 Year and 5 year courses

As mandated by the Bar Council of India's new legal education rules, there will be twenty (20) theoretical subjects, four (4) clinical courses and (6) optional papers from various groups of law subjects. E.g. IPR, International Law, Constitutional Law etc.

In addition, for the 5 year integrated dual degree programs (BA LL.B, B.Com LL.B, BBA LL.B etc.), there will be a minimum of 14 papers with minimum of 3 subjects, plus 2 compulsory English Language papers.

Depending on the availability availability of the faculty for the Optional Subjects, B.N. Mandal University may offer only a limited set of subjects from among the optionals; as long as the minimum number is fulfilled.

BCI Compulsory LL.M Syllabus

As per the Gazette notification published by the Bar Council of India in 2021, PGP Courses (LL.M. Programs) offered by any university across India shall comprise a minimum of four compulsory taught papers, eight papers from Common Basket or from area of specialization as may be offered by the University and a dissertation under the guidance of a Professor/Associate Professor.
