Genesis of the APSET 2018 – Andhra Pradesh State Eligibility Test

There are 26 Universities, 146 Government Degree Colleges, 1192 aided and unaided degree colleges in the bifurcated – newly formed state of Andhra Pradesh.  To meet the demand for recruitment as Assistant Professors / Lectures through direct recruitment or promotion, the Andhra Pradesh State Eligibility Test ( APSET – 2018 ) for the Year 2018 will be conducted by the Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.

Originally, the UGC NET was conceived as the common exam to determine eligibility for JRF and for Assistant Professor roles across India. However, since the UGC NET is conducted in English and Hindi, there is a requirement for Teachers / Researchers who are conversant with the subjects in the local language. So individual States conduct their own SETs, which is conducted in English and also the State’s Official Language. (Not all papers are bilingual.)

States like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, MP etc. conduct their own SETs. The North Eastern states have a combined SLET (State Level Entrance Test). After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the new APSET was created; which is conducted annually by one of the Universities in Andhra Pradesh.

While the exam is held in 31 different subjects; this article specifically focuses on APSET Law Paper II. Candidates who clear the APSET Law are eligible to apply for suitable roles as a Assistant Professor / Lecturer within the State of Andhra Pradesh. The APSET exam does not cover eligibility for JRF.

APSET 2018 Online Application

The entire APSET 2018 application process is online. Candidates do not need to send any physical documents to the APSET office and neither will the hall-tickets or results be sent as hard copies.

Once a candidate has registered on the official site at https://apset.net.in/reg_instruction.aspx , the entire process is online.  Once the exam admit card is available for download, candidates need to print a clear copy and carry it to the exam center along with any of the prescribed Photo ID cards.

APSET does not verify the eligibility of the candidates and does not require any documentation such as previous marks cards, degree certificates etc. This is because the exam is only an ‘eligibility test‘ and not a selection exam for any jobs or roles.
